From Unlocked.
While once a top interrogator for the CIA, Alice Racine (Noomi Rapace) now lives in London while trying to hide profession-wise after an unsuccessful interrogation led to a terrorist attack in France. Even though her mentor (Michael Douglas) and area director (Toni Collette) try to encourage her back into interrogating, Alice feels that she is not good enough to prevent other attacks from happening. When a threat surfaces for an unknown American target in the United Kingdom, Alice, the only interrogator in the country, is brought in to interrogate the messenger between a powerful imam (Makram Khoury) and a radical millionaire (Michael Epp). Alice is able to quickly learn the courier’s message, but then she receives a call from the CIA informing her that she is needed for a job… the one that she is already working on. Somehow, the CIA has been breached and Alice has become the only one that use the coded message to stop the terror attack, but it quickly becomes a life-or-death question of who can she trust? in her attempt to learn how far the conspiracy goes.
This thriller is full of action and tense moments, which make it a glued-to-the-screen experience for fans of the spy genre. Rapace is a solid lead and she carries the weight of the role’s action very well; she holds her own against the other major actors (such as John Malkovich and Orlando Bloom). As with some espionage movies there is a point where guesses can be made to certain twists of the plot, but most are just minutes before the point is revealed. The story is not totally unique in the world of government conspiracy movies, but it is entertaining to watch; fans of espionage movies will have no trouble moving past similarities and judging Unlocked on it’s other accomplishments. This is a good spy movie with lots of action and wit that allows the viewer to lose themselves in the story without getting lost in the story.
