From Black Panther.
T’Challa (Chadwick Boseman) is set to take over the throne of Wakanda after his father’s death; the small, but extremely technologically advanced African country has kept themselves hidden in the shadows of the world’s attention. Before he is named king, T’Challa must face any leader of Wakanda’s four tribes in a challenge for the throne, but when none are able to succeed against T’Challa, he is named both king and Black Panther. With a sister (Letitia Wright) that creates amazing advances for the Black Panther suit, a mother (Angela Bassett) that has nothing but pride for him, and a mentor (Forest Whitaker) who helps him understand his role as king, T’Challa seems to have nothing to fear. However, the return of terrorist Ulysses Klaue (Andy Serkis) to the world stage causes T’Challa, his general, Okoye (Danai Gurira), and ex-girlfriend/spy, Nakia (Lupita Nyong’o) to head off to South Korea to capture him. In Korea, they find CIA Agent Ross (Martin Freeman) who is there to deal with Klaue; while T’Challa is at odds with Ross, they must must work with him because Klaue escapes with the mysterious appearance of Erik Killmonger (Michael B. Jordan). Erik’s history is mysterious, as is his connection to T’Challa and the history of Wakanda. A short time later, Erik arrives in Wakanda to threaten the throne and all T’Challa stands for. It will be up to the Black Panther, his friends, family, and country to make a stand for what they believe in or suffer the consequences.
Black Panther is visually stunning movie that travels all across the globe and brings in a wide range of characters; all the actors, especially Boseman, are strong, funny, and believable exactly as is needed. The movie tries to make a stand based on current events in today’s American culture, and while it works, it does seem too stressed at times. The action and special effects are amazing, creating a world like no other in Wakanda. Black Panther holds its own as a strong Marvel movie, but it also fits well into the Marvel Cinematic Universe. This highly-anticipated superhero movie is full of visual awesomeness and definitely worth the watch.
