“Newt.”

From Maze Runner: The Death Cure.

Even after all that Thomas (Dylan O’Brien) and his friends have been forced to endure from the terrors of the Maze to the destruction orchestrated by WCKD in the Scorch, his world is falling apart even more.  His attempts to stop WCKD’s complex and evil plan has placed Thomas at the center of attention of the leaders of WCKD, such as Ava Paige (Patricia Clarkson) and Assistant Director Janson (Aidan Gillen).  In an attempt to rescue Minho (Ki Hong Lee) from WCKD, Thomas, Newt (Thomas Brodie-Sangster), and Brenda (Rosa Salazar) and Jorge (Giancarlo Esposito) from the resistance movement sneak into WCKD’s last defense: a quarantined, walled-in city.  While Thomas is working against WCKD, Teresa (Kaya Scodelario) is still willingly working for WCKD because she believes the sufferings of those that are immune are far outweighed by the salvation of humanity.  As they get closer to carrying out their plan, Thomas and his friends connect with some allies, including Thomas’ old enemy from the Glade, Gally (Will Poulter), and the small group of rebels prepare one last impossible plan to save Minho and take down WCKD before it costs them everything.

This movie will probably upset avid fans of the book series, just like many did not approve with the major changes that were made to the story in the Scorch Trials adaptation, but if viewers watch the movie with no expectation of seeing the story found in the books, it is a very enjoying movie.  This is not to say that the movie does not follow a loose version of the book; some characters’ fates and choices are the same, even though they didn’t have to be.  The action is almost non-stop and that danger creates an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride from start to finish.  This movie has all the makings of a strong zombie thriller: an elite few trying to control the masses, a wildly spreading disease, and a few immune characters.  Through all the ups and downs, The Death Cure does reach a conclusion (for the movie and series) that is satisfying and enjoyable.
