“Cause the red light wasn’t on, so I just had to ask.”

From Pitch Perfect 3.

It’s been three years since Beca (Anna Kendrick) and many of the other Bellas graduated from college, but they’re terribly stuck in life and wishing they were still singing a cappella with the group.  While gathered for a night out, Aubrey (Anna Camp) suggests that the group joins the U.S.O. European tour as a last-chance for performing together, so almost the entire group of friends (Brittany Snow, Hailee Steinfeld, Ester Dean, Hana Mae Lee, and Chrissie Fit) agree and set off for Spain.  Upon arriving, the Bellas are introduced to the other acts performing on the tour (including female rock band led by Ruby Rose) and the women quickly feel inadequate.  Amidst all the chaos that follows the Bellas, Fat Amy (Rebel Wilson) is surprised to discover that her long-lost father (John Lithgow) has found her in an attempt to reconnect and make up for all their lost time.  As the tour progresses and everything seems to fall apart, the ladies must struggle with what this tour means for them, both as a group and as individuals.  Can they find the motivation needed to sing as the one amazing group they’ve been in the past or will this competition truly break them?

This movie is full of everything that makes the Pitch Perfect movies so enjoyable: witty dialogue, catchy music, and loads of laughter.  The crass humor is slightly toned down in this movie, but the comedy picks up in other ways to keep the audience laughing.  The musical numbers are catchy and plentiful, both from the Bellas and the other characters; the wide variety of musical styles and songs allow for a varied, but connected soundtrack.  There are some action scenes that are fun and surprising, but the real reason for the movie’s success is a story line that allows the movie to build out of the genius chemistry of the actors.  Pitch Perfect 3 is an all-around fun movie that presents a satisfying end to the series and characters we’ve come to love.
